BERLEVÅG -

Berlevåg is one of the northernmost municipalities in Norway, surrounded by a wild Arctic landscape where the Barents Sea crashes against dramatic cliffs. Life here has always been shaped by storms, long polar nights and the endless horizon of the ocean. Yet out of this raw environment grew a resilient community, known not only for its deep connection to the sea but also for its world famous choir that brought global attention to this remote fishing village.

The coat of arms, approved in 1988, is divided gold and blue with a flame-shaped line. It represents the community’s dependence on the sea, with waves crashing against the shore. The five waves symbolize the five settlements that at different times have formed the heart of the municipality: Berlevåg, Kongsfjord, Gulgo, Kvitnes, and Store Molvik.

Together these elements form a powerful emblem of survival, perseverance and pride. The Berlevåg coat of arms pays tribute to generations who have wrestled with the sea and celebrates a people whose lives remain inseparable from the rhythm of the Arctic coast.
